December 2020 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Railway Children
To celebrate the occasion, I thought I would offer the opportunity for anyone touched by this lovely story to buy a special edition of the book, with all the proceeds going to charity.
I have 65 copies of a 2005 Centenary Edition of E. Nesbit’s novel The Railway Children, beautifully illustrated with photographs from the period. I was asked to write the foreword and felt honoured to do so.
I will sign the Foreword page with a dedication to whomever is the chosen recipient.
There will only be the 65 copies, each of them numbered. It could be a collector’s item, or simply a present for anyone who loves the story.
The asking price of £50 will go to charity. All the costs for the book, the packaging and posting are covered. So every penny you spend will be helping two excellent charities doing important work.
I also have 50 10×8 copies of a charming photograph taken on Oakworth station with Bernard Cribbins, as Mr Perks, Sally Thomsett as Phyllis, and me as Roberta. These will also be signed with a personal message. I would like to raise £25 for charity with each photo.
There are two charities that mean a lot to me, the money raised will be split between them.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust: Like 1 in 25 people in the UK, I am a carrier of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) gene, both my niece and great-nephew have CF, so I am aware of the impact of this condition on the family. Those with CF have been particularly vulnerable during this pandemic and have needed all the support the CFTrust could give.
St Giles Trust is an organisation I have come to know of the last 10 years. I have seen first hand the work they do for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This winter they have created The Pantry which not only gives emotional support but will help families badly affected by COVID out of food poverty.
